There are two major '); document.writeln('ways of updating a flexwindow: by '); document.writeln('replacing content, and by adding content.

Replacing content
To replace content in a flexwindow, '); document.writeln('send new content in an e-mail to your flexwindow by using this e-mail address: '); document.writeln('update@flexwindow.com. If you want to change some of the content that already '); document.writeln('exists in your flexwindow, then first copy this content from your webpage, paste '); document.writeln('it in a new e-mail message, change it and send it.

Adding content
To add content to a flexwindow, send the '); document.writeln('new content you want to add to the existing content in your flexwindow to '); document.writeln('add@flexwindow.com. The new content will be placed above the existing '); document.writeln('content. Alternatively, you may use add.bottom@flexwindow.com to add '); document.writeln('content below the current content, instead of above '); document.writeln('it.

Plain text is the most simple way to '); document.writeln('update your FlexWindow with new content. It is also the most restricted since it '); document.writeln('will only allow you to send plain text. That means you can send bold face text '); document.writeln('or pictures this way. Your layout options are therefore limited. You can use '); document.writeln('<enter> to make separate paragraphs. '); document.writeln('If you use plain '); document.writeln('text sending, make sure your e-mail client will actually send plain text (as '); document.writeln('opposed to HTML e-mail). In Microsoft outlook you can check this by opening a '); document.writeln('new e-mail message window, then click on the menu entry “Layout”, and check if '); document.writeln('“plain text” has a check mark in front of it. If not, click on “Plain text” to '); document.writeln('enable it.

You can use plain text '); document.writeln('e-mail to send HTML code. This can be useful if you are using an e-mail client '); document.writeln('that does not have HTML mail capability, but you like to have more control over '); document.writeln('your layout.To use this '); document.writeln('mode, make sure your HTML code is placed between “<html>” and '); document.writeln('<”/html”>. This will let FlexWindow now to process the message as HTML '); document.writeln('rather then plain text. Now you can for example use bold text by typing '); document.writeln('“<b>this is bold</b>”. You cannot use pictures in this '); document.writeln('mode.

HINT: Using Microsoft '); document.writeln('Internet Explorer you can select and copy a piece of text from a web site. Now '); document.writeln('copy this text into a new e-mail message in Microsoft Outlook. Make sure that '); document.writeln('the layout of your message is set to HTML. This way you can easily change the '); document.writeln('former content of your web site by simply copying it in your e-mail client and '); document.writeln('editing it from there.

If you are using the HTML capability '); document.writeln('of your e-mail client to send updates to FlexWindow, there are a couple of '); document.writeln('issues to be aware of.

First of all, not all '); document.writeln('Javascript code will work with a FlexWindow. Most code will work just fine, '); document.writeln('however. The easiest way to find out if your new update works is just to send it '); document.writeln('and try it out. Keep a copy of your previous content, of course. FlexWindow uses '); document.writeln('Javascript itself to contain the data you are sending to update your web site. '); document.writeln('It uses a single quote (‘) to contain the update you send in a Javascript '); document.writeln('variable (along the lines of “window1 = ‘ <my content>’;”). For this to '); document.writeln('work, FlexWindow converts any single quote (‘) to a slash and single quote (/’). '); document.writeln('For most Javasrcipt code this will work just fine. However, if you are using a '); document.writeln('lot of nested quotes you can run into trouble if you use single qoutes and slash '); document.writeln('single quotes (\' and /\') '); document.writeln('simultaneously. This ultimately means that for some Javascript '); document.writeln('applications, you can run out of quotes.

This will however require you to provide facilities for this on your '); document.writeln('web site, as is described in the next section.

FlexWindow can forward '); document.writeln('content to a folder on your own web site. This has the advantage that your web '); document.writeln('site remains unaffected when FlexWindow servers are down. Thus, you are keeping '); document.writeln('things in your own hand and use our servers only when updating your web '); document.writeln('site.

For this to work, you need to specify settings in your FlexWindow '); document.writeln('account administration. FlexWindow needs to know how to access your FTP server '); document.writeln('and where to put the data on your server. You need to specify an FTP host (e.g. '); document.writeln('ftp.myserver.com), a username and '); document.writeln('password to gain access to it (e.g. “fwaccess”, “secretpass1”), and a folder '); document.writeln('where the data is to be stored (e.g. “data/fwcontent”). We advise you to create '); document.writeln('a separate new user and FTP location on your server, solely for FlexWindow '); document.writeln('purposes. This will leave your current web site structure intact and you make '); document.writeln('sure that other information on your web site cannot be accessed by using this '); document.writeln('username and password.

FlexWindow will now know '); document.writeln('where to send data received through FlexWindow updates. FlexWindow translates '); document.writeln('e-mails send to it in proper HTML code and makes adjustments to the location of '); document.writeln('any pictures you send in updates. FlexWindow will extract any picture from your '); document.writeln('e-mail and will send them separately to your web site using FTP. The updated '); document.writeln('content will need a reference to these pictures. Therefore, you also have to '); document.writeln('provide the http equivalent of your FTP location in your account settings. If '); document.writeln('any pictures are send, FlexWindow will replace the location of these pictures '); document.writeln('with this setting (known as “http picture path”), so your webpage will know '); document.writeln('where to find it.

In some business settings, your e-mail wil contain a standard '); document.writeln('footer. This will contain legal notes or an address, for example. Have a '); document.writeln('look in your e-mail client to see if you can disable the use of footers in '); document.writeln('your mail. It is not always possible to control this in your e-mail '); document.writeln('client. If you can\'t disable it in your e-mail client then do the '); document.writeln('following. At the very end of your e-mail, include (just type) the marker: '); document.writeln('"#END#" (without the quotation marks). Anything '); document.writeln('that is typed or automatically included beyond this marker is ignored by '); document.writeln('FleXWindow.
